About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are the one and only living and true God.
Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2
About the Father
God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purpose of His grace. He is all-powerful, all loving and all wise. God is the Father of truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all people.
Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 42:5-8; Isaiah 64:8; Jeremiah 10:10; Matthew 23:9; Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:10-11; John 4:24; John 14:6-13; Romans 8:14-15; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Ephesians 4:6; 1 Timothy 1:17
About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect penal substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He physically arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of kings, and Lord of lords. Through the Holy Spirit, He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.
Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:13-22; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift and seals him or her eternally for God. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily.
John 16:7-13; John 14:16-17; John 14:26; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18
About the Bible
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was penned by human authors, under the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth and authority for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is inerrant in the original writings and is the infallible truth in all matters it touches.
Psalm 12:6; Psalm 119:11; Psalm 119:105; Psalm 119:160; Proverbs 30:5; Matthew 5:18; 1 Corinthians 2:7-14; 2 Timothy 1:13; 2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 1:20-21
About Humanity
Man was created innocent and in the image and likeness of God, for fellowship with God, but he sinned bringing forth death (which means separation from God) to himself and his posterity. As a consequence, man is now a sinner both by nature and by choice, is alienated from God, and apart from salvation through Jesus Christ is eternally separated from God.
Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:17; Genesis 3:6; Genesis 3:19; Romans 3:10-18; Romans 5:12-21; Ephesians 2:1-3
About Salvation
Salvation is a gift of God and is received by humanity only through repentance and personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Humanity is justified by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, apart from human merit, works, or ceremonies. All true believers, “born again” by the Spirit through faith in Christ, are kept secure in Christ forever and will exhibit the present evidence of a transformed life.
John 3:16-17; John 10:27-30; John 14:6; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:33-39; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:11-12
About Eternity
People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are literal realities of eternal existence.
John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15
About the Church
The local church is the tangible manifestation of the universal church, the body of Christ. Its two ordinances are Baptism (of believers only, by immersion) and the Lord’s Supper.
Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 26:26-30; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Colossians 2:12
About Spiritual Gifts
The Holy Spirit gives every believer spiritual gifts to be exercised for building up the body of Christ. At the time of salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell fully within the Christ follower. While there is dispute concerning the contemporary presence of tongues and interpretation of tongues, we believe that it hinders our ministry to unbelievers, violates our understanding of order, and inhibits the edification of many in our body. Therefore it is not encouraged in any church gatherings.
John 10:41-42; 1 Corinthians 12:4; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 1 Corinthians 12:29-31; 1 Corinthians 14:19; 1 Corinthians 14:23; 1 Corinthians 14:40; Ephesians 4:11-12

We are members of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. Though we are Southern Baptist in doctrine and affiliation, we have a name that does not have any denominational titles associated with it because we believe that a denominational title could be a stumbling block or barrier to some people. We are affiliated with these organizations because of our agreement with the doctrine stated in the Baptist Faith and Message and our partnership in missions through giving to the Cooperative Program.

The best way to plug into Waters Edge is to dive in! The first thing you can do is attend a Sunday worship service. However, we recognize that it is hard to meet people in a large worship service environment, so make plans to attend an upcoming House Party where you can meet and connect with others. From the House Party it is our desire that you will plug into a Community Group, a predictable environment where people experience authentic community and spiritual growth. There are also many different Volunteer Teams that you can get involved in. So don't just stand there, dive in!

The mission of Waters Edge Church is to make and become devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We feel that this is best done in a small group atmosphere. That’s why every ministry at Waters Edge functions as a step to move people toward community groups. There are several reasons why we feel that community groups work better than adult Sunday School. True accountability can be reached with a constant group of people in each community group. A community group is a safe place to open your heart and share your feelings. It’s a safe place to ask tough questions. It’s where lasting friendships are made. This structure also allows our members to benefit from the fellowship and accountability of a small group during the week while still serving on Sundays.

Church membership identifies your willingness to formally and publicly align with the mission, values, and beliefs of Waters Edge Church. While you will not find the term "church member" in Scripture, the concept of belonging is found throughout the New Testament. In the first century church, believers clearly identified themselves with a specific local body and were challenged to become active participants. Membership serves to help the leadership of the church know who is on the team. Membership is a step that moves each of us off the sidelines and into the game. You officially become a member of Waters Edge Church when you are actively involved in a Community Group or on a Volunteer Team.

While the Waters Edge Band has not yet recorded a Worship CD, the majority of the music the band plays is available on CD as recorded by the original artists. If you have a particular song (or songs) that you are interested in, email our Lead Worshiper Phil Poteat with the title or a memorable line from the song and he will do his best to send you information on the song's recorded availability. In the meantime, feel free to check out Grassroots Music's "Worship Music" page and check out some of their spotlight items.

In Kid Kraze we use a curriculum called 252 Basics. It teaches kids to make wise choices, to trust in God no matter what, and to treat others the way they want to be treated. In WeeWorld we use a curriculum called My First Look. It is designed to give preschool children a first impression of their loving heavenly Father. It teaches preschoolers that God made them, God loves them, and Jesus wants to be their friend forever.

All members of the preschoolers and kids leadership team are required to fill out a Family Ministry Application. The application is reviewed and approved before they are placed in a position of service. Background checks are also done through ADP Select. Leaders having spiritual influence over preschoolers or kids are required to be members of Waters Edge Church.
